Hello, I’m Jacob Sapp. Amy (my wife) and I are founders of Sapp Sucker BBQ Co. LLC. Some say I'm a little bbq crazy, but I prefer to think of myself as a connoisseur. I've always loved the smell of the grill and the taste of grilled food. Whenever I visit a new city, finding a great local bbq joint is at the top of my list! For me, there is no better way to cook than with a wood burning fire.
I want the Sauce!
Like most barbecue fanatics, I want the flavor of my food to stand on its own and showcase the talent of the pitmaster…but I do love a good sauce. Unfortunately, my relationship with them has been a bit rocky. I wanted (and shopped for) a smooth, flavorful BBQ sauce that would elevate the natural flavors of our grilled and smoked meats without overshadowing them. What I found were a lot of bland and boring sauces that totally hid all of the hard work I put into preparing my chicken, pork, and beef. That’s not good! Every connoisseur knows that the meat’s natural flavor takes center stage in American Craft BBQ. After years of buying and experimenting with uninspiring "gourmet" sauces, Amy and I felt we could craft a better barbecue experience.
The Ancient City Original
Amy and I were born and raised in St. Augustine, FL and our families have lived here for generations. It's also where we are raising our children. As lifelong residents, we were inspired by the heritage, traditions, and culture of our Ancient City. Our high quality sauces are a testament to our passion for craft barbecue as well as our love for our hometown and the local bbq flavors that we enjoyed growing up.
Crafted for connoisseurs
We think a great barbecue sauce (like a fine wine or spirit) should be carefully crafted in small batches using premium ingredients to deliver maximum flavor. This method ensures that our sauces are rich, flavorful, and exceptionally smooth tasting. Our sauces perfectly complement fish, poultry, pork, beef, and even vegetables. Sapp Sucker is the sauce that bbq aficionados have been waiting for.
